24 Lines on Love

February 11, 2017

If only I could love you for ten lives

Or more,

Until the bleeding sun parts the storm clouds

Which reside upon my heart

Who knows how all things pulsating

Sputter out and cease,

Might we, us, ours outlast,

Epochal and evermore,

Where men can not go alone

All these songs transcribed in time

But new to each singer,

Can we linger in eternity?

That is not how love works,

The man says,

Things that tear and bruise are

Gifted but one chance at life,

This ephemeral blue bell

Tolls in singularity.

Ah, if that be, may the heavens give way,

These many hearts beaten cold

flourish, fly, thump anight,

pour down the light,

let lovers reign down

on this earth once more.
