A Box With No Key or Lid

February 12, 2017

Wear this ancient armor abreast

which has served as shield

longer than iron or steel

against all that is offense in the world;

embrace its gentle strength,

how it may wrap around your contours,

a snake keeping warm an egg,

and when hatched we will have created such beauty

as we have never dreamed;

in the idylls of these sheets

may we build sanctuary,

whisper in tones of remarkable secrecy

a small golden globe tucked inside the white;

listen, love, the heart now beats for th(r)ee.
