Summer On Ohio Street

July 18, 2017

Windy city mornings

when the scrapers push out reams of daylight

and the pedis spool by in lines.

We painted our faces at 90 degrees, thinking of snow as much as our worries,

Young women planting seeds as they ran by,

Pounding, illustrious, sweat and legs,

A season when they all wore flats and beauty was comfortable.

The drone of engines and cricketing spokes;

A boy taps hearts into his phone atop a parking pillar,

A man beggars for the Sun-Times,

The kids flip in the Michigan for Snapchat,

And men laugh stories up on Trump tower

As gas drops another penny.
