Two Men Stab Each Other on North Avenue Beach

September 11, 2017

Headlights off.

Night leans on fence posts,

the guarded teeth of North Avenue.

I wrap your flannel around my hands,

sneaking between police tape, splintered boards.

No one tells me to leave.

I don't know what I expected, maybe some music?

But look, the sand raked clear already

your last cigarette buried.

Waves break the way a bottle does,

and I do too, just because every

thing seems to be breaking these days.
