This Day in History, Waning Gibbous Over Los Angeles

November 9, 2017

there goes that fucking moon again

hanging low over the LA lights

giant and blood

   orange on the cloud

don't you know you can't hang there like this

don't you know what today is

what happened last year

   this weekend

      just now

might those LAX landers fly right into your soft spots, moon

might the city make a firestorm for you from its reaching towers

might you drop right on top of a government building

like a kid on the playground hung from the jungle gym

  for too long

put your face in the sand

not in mine

where it is a reminder of all things youthful and passing

of all love beautiful and lasting

how could you   on a night like tonight

 fade into the blackness

to better suit our moods
